Salim Mansur published Recalling the 1976 Republican Convention and Its Unintended Consequences in Fellows 2016-07-21 16:07:13 -0400

History is paradoxical. This is because it is riddled with unintended consequences that are unavoidable, as they are part of the warp-and-woof of history.
History is also paradoxical, it might be said, because the gods of history keep reminding us mortals that our conceit in being overly rational actors, foresighted and forearmed, is misplaced. Our best-laid plans are only as good as the limitation of our knowledge, which is finite in the face of infinitude. Only the gods of history know beginnings and ends ahead of time. Or as Shakespeare wrote, “As flies to wanton boys, are we to the gods. They kill us for their sport.”
But when we, in the sobriety of our minds, make some sense of history we do so in retrospect as spectators. As actors in history, we have flawed expectation of our motives and imperfect understanding of our roles. Hence, the unintended consequences of our actions that torment us are mostly of our own making.Read more
Salim Mansur published TRUMP AND RECALLING THE 1976 REPUBLICAN CONVENTION in Fellows 2016-07-11 12:43:57 -0400
Ahead of the July 18-21 Republican National Convention meeting in Cleveland, Ohio, Donald Trump emerged as the GOP’s presumptive nominee after winning the Indiana primary on May 3. The effort to stop Trump, however, persists with some party insiders and disgruntled conservatives insisting they will contest rules on the convention floor and strive to steal the nomination, or mount a third-party bid threatening party unity in a manner not seen since Republicans gathered in 1976 in Kansas City, Missouri, to nominate their candidate for that year’s election.
The head of the Republican National Committee, Reince Priebus, has warned fellow Republicans that any third-party bid would be a “suicide mission” that could wreck the United States for generations to come. The choice for Americans voting in November to elect their president will be stark between Donald Trump and the likely Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton. Moreover, the consequences of who gets elected as the 45th President of the United States will not be confined for Americans only, it will also be far reaching for the rest of the world.Read more
Salim Mansur published A Ramadan Reflection: Trump, Muslims and American Islam in Fellows 2016-06-17 14:52:23 -0400
--Published in AMERICAN THINKER, 15 June 2016
The month of Ramadan just begun for Muslims is not merely about the rigors of fasting and prayers, it is also about meditating on man’s responsibility in this world and accountability in the next. One of the most urgent issues for Muslims at the present time is take responsibility for those who commit violence against innocent people in the name of Islam, and unequivocally repudiate them and their theology that defiles Islam and makes a mockery of God’s revelation to Muhammad that first occurred, as tradition records, in the month of Ramadan.
But nearly fifteen years after 9/11 and counting, Muslims in America as elsewhere remain in denial of Islam’s role (or a perverse theological rendition of Islam) in the terrorist violence that spread from the Middle East around the world. This explains in part why any expectation that so-called “moderate” Muslims in sufficient numbers will publicly repudiate their religious compatriots who engage in terrorism as an act of religious obligation, or jihad (holy war), has not materialized yet and likely will not unless there is some significant change in majority American view of Islam that presses upon Muslims.
The emergence of Donald Trump as the Republican nominee for the presidential election in November could be the spur for a sufficient number of Muslims, if they have courage and imagination, to break from their past. A Trump presidency might well facilitate the making of an American Islam as an effective counterweight to political Islam, or Islamism, that has been ruinous for Muslims everywhere in modern times.Read more
Do Not Let the Iranian Government Get Away with Murder!
The U.S. President’s nuclear accommodation of radical Islamist theocrats threatens our civilization as did Chamberlain’s accommodation of Hitler.
Obama’s deal with Iran is an unforgiveable betrayal of America’s interests and Israel’s interests. What has gone largely unsaid, however, it is also an unforgiveable betrayal of the interests of the Iranian people.
Never! Never would Iran be allowed to have a nuclear weapon! This mantra has foolishly been replaced with a deal that will release over $150 billion in sanctions relief that the Mullahs will be able to use to fund murder abroad and murder at home, while more and more centrifuges spin faster and faster to produce weapons-grade uranium for nuclear bombs, and ICBMs to deliver them.
Not since Neville Chamberlain’s betrayal of Czechoslovakia and his naïve speech promising “Peace in our Time” has a leader of the free world done something so utterly outrageous and clearly dangerous. Rather than preventing Iran from developing weapons of mass destruction, this deal will enhance Iran’s ability to do so 1000-fold and commits the United States to protect Iran while they are doing so. If Congress approves the agreement, then sanctions will be lifted and Iran will use billions of dollars of currently frozen assets to fund Hamas in Gaza, Hezbollah in Lebanon, Al Shabab in Somalia, Assad in Syria and countless other terrorist groups around the world.
Today, Canada is the only country in the free world that promises to uphold economic sanctions against Iran. Canada recognizes that a country that cynically persecutes and murders its own citizens cannot be trusted to uphold any of its foreign military agreements. Canada must stand firm!
It is well known that most citizens in Iran hate their government. This past spring, Iran Human Rights, a non-profit organization, reported at a conference in Oslo, Norway that in 2014 Iran executed 753 of its own citizens.
Iran is following the outrageous examples set by Nazi Germany and Soviet Russia in the 20th century, and North Korea and Syria today. These regimes which are the least democratic and the most hostile to their neighbours also inevitably trample the human rights of their own citizens. Iran is killing and torturing hundreds of its own citizens, including some who return, such as Canadian-Iranian journalist Zahra Kazemi.
The Canadian government knows this very well and is willing to keep its finger in the dike so that the Iranian regime does not get away with murder. We all need to tell the Canadian government that they are doing the right thing. It is now in your court!

- Iran's leaders are a bunch of authoritarian multi millionaires. Iran is a "Theocracy of Thugs"
Haj Amin al Husseini, the Grand Mufti of Jerusalem, was the Moslem religious leader of Jerusalem’s Muslim community and of those Moslems living in the land of Israel during the early years of the British Mandate. During WWII, he moved to Berlin where he became an intimate of Adolph Hitler. He was also one of Adolph Eichmann’s close friends and colleagues.
From Berlin, Haj Amin broadcast to the Arab world in support of the Nazis, and against the Allies. He preached hatred for the Jewish people. He actively raised Moslem troops for the SS - the Skanderbeg & Handschar Divisions - from Bosnia to fight with the Nazis in the Balkans. In a letter to the Nazi Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1944, while the German extermination camps were murdering hundreds of thousands of Jews, he asked that the Nazis take the “necessary steps to stop the Jews from emigrating." Al Husseini managed to escape Germany. After being welcomed by King Farouk to post war Egypt, he took up residence in Lebanon. From there, he carried on his anti-Jewish and anti-Israel activities, until his death in 1974.
Mahmoud Abbas cannot stop praising this Nazi. Widely known for his Holocaust denying pseudo-historical PhD., written for his former Marxist handlers in Communist Russia, he has officially endorsed Haj Amin al Husseini. In a precedent setting public speech in Gaza , Abbas said, "We must...recall the outstanding leader of the Palestinian people...the Grand Mufti of Palestine-Haj Mohamed Amin al -Husseini who sponsored the struggle from the beginning..."
In his autobiography Haj Amin wrote:
"Our fundamental condition for cooperating with Germany was a free hand to eradicate every last Jew from Palestine and the Arab World. I asked Hitler for an explicit undertaking to allow us to solve the Jewish people in a manner befitting our national and racial aspirations and according to the scientific methods innovated by Germany in the handling of its Jews. The answer I got was, 'the Jews are yours.'"
Ami Isseroff and Peter Fitzgerald Morris, The Iraq Coup Attempt of 1941, the Mufti and the Farhoud
There can be no solution to the Israeli Arab conflict until Arabs in Arab and Islamic countries, recognize and atone for the active participation of Palestinian leader Haj Amin al Husseini in the Nazi war effort. There can be no peace without truth.

April 2015 marks the 100th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide, perpetrated by the “Young Turks” with the full support of the Ottoman Turkish government bureaucracy, before their defeat in 1917, and to this date denied by all subsequent Turkish governments.
More than one and a half million Armenian men, women and children were raped, tortured, put on forced desert death marches and executed.
This systematic genocide of the Armenian people has been considered a template for all modern genocides. Let us remember that in 1939, when asked if his war against the Jews would be opposed by other governments, Adolph Hitler retorted, “Who still talks nowadays of the extermination of the Armenians?”
“…our grandmother’s father provided cavalry horses to the Ottoman Army and had for years by 1915... That spring, instead of buying the horses legally as they always had in the past, they simply shot her father to death, confiscated the herd, and then—for good measure—confiscated the family home.”

While we sleep peacefully in our beds, the Yazidi people of Iraq and Syria are being driven from their homes, the men and boys crucified and killed, while the women and children are raped and enslaved. Those who manage to escape have become refugees within Iraq, Syria, Jordan and abroad.
According to the Yezidi Human Rights Organization, more than 7,000 women and children have been captured by ISIS so far, and the slaughter and enslavement is continuing.
Nineteen year old 'Zaytoun' was captured and then raped 20 times a day by young ISIS fighters until she was sold off and married to an 80 year old Muslim man. She managed to escape but she is severely traumatized. Many Yezidi have chosen suicide over enslavement or conversion to Islam at gunpoint. Entire families have been murdered
This BBC documentary explains how women are being captured and abused by Islamic terrorists:
Surely we have learned from past genocides such as those against the Jews, the Armenians and the Rwandese, in both Europe Asia and Africa. We must not now turn a blind eye to the suffering of the Yazidi. We welcome and support the military and humanitarian intervention of Canada, the US and its allies in the war that now engulfs Iraq and Syria. But, we must do more!
There is no excuse for standing by. Let us tell our governments that they must do more, for they were elected to represent us. Together, let us demand that they provide more aid and protection for these innocent people. The Yazidi are the most ancient national group in Iraq and Syria and deserve our fullest support. They are among the indigenous peoples of Iraq and long predate the Muslim conquest.
